David Murphy has practiced in the area of insurance defence litigation for more than 30 years. He has extensive experience working with insurers on motor vehicle tort, accident benefits and loss transfer claims.
He has particular experience in defending slip and fall and Occupiers Liability Act claims on behalf of insurers and property management companies.
In addition to commercial tort files, David has expertise in defending sports related claims including golf, hockey, skiing and recreational boating. He specializes in social host cases, defending and recovering subrogated damages from bars and taverns.
David's clients include some of Canada's largest direct writers and automobile insurance companies. In addition, he has been counsel on a wide variety of property and casualty losses including fraud, arson and WSIB claims.
David has years of trial and appellate experience, is a seasoned negotiator and litigator with a strong record of cost efficient results.
He is a member of the Defence Research Institute and Loyal Order of the Blue Goose. He has lectured for the Ontario Insurance Institute and participated in seminars for prominent independent adjusters on auto related topics.
A native of Halifax, David graduated from Dalhousie law school in 1987 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1989.
